
The Port aux Basques and Area Chamber has been in existence since the early 1970s. We became incorporated in December, 1980 and currently have approximately 80 members. The Chamber represents 27 communities, with a total population of approximately 10,000 people, from North Branch on the West Coast to Grand Bruit on the South Coast of the island of Newfoundland. This geographical area is home to approximately 300 businesses with an estimated 75% of these businesses operating out of the largest center, Port aux Basques. The Port aux Basques and Area Chamber of Commerce is actively involved in the:
- promotion and improvement of trade and commerce and the economic, civic and social welfare of the community;
- promotion of leadership which enables the business community to speak with a strong collective voice;
- and being the voice of the business community on matters of municipal, provincial and national importance.
To achieve these goals and objectives, the Port aux Basques and Area Chamber of Commerce is continuously forming partnerships with other groups and organizations throughout the area. For example, in the past the Chamber has worked closely with the Town of Channel- Port aux Basques, the Marine and Mountain Zone Corporation, the Gateway Tourism Association, and Marine Atlantic Inc. There is also a continuous, strong relationship with the Newfoundland and Labrador Chamber of Commerce, the Atlantic Provinces Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. |
