On June 5th, 2006 the Chamber held their 2nd annual Taste of Newfoundland Dinner, held at Hotel Port aux Basques, there was 77 in attendance. Minister Hedderson was our guest speaker and Nick McGrath said greetings.
Chef, Eric King along with a few of his students from the College of the North Atlantic prepared the meal and gave demonstrations beforehand. This event was a success and received only positive comments. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and also everyone that came out for the event.

The Adopt-a-spot program, an undertaking of the Town of Channel Port aux Basques, and the Port aux Basques Area Chamber of Commerce is aimed at reducing litter and beautifying open spaces in our area.

The selected areas around town include those in need of enhancement to further add to the beautification of the Port aux Basques area. These areas do not include private properties.

The Adopt-a-spot program is an effective and hassle-free means for businesses to become more involved in the status of the community. You may choose the spot for your business or organization to adopt or we may recommend a spot for you.

The Gateway Business Blowout Sale & Tradeshow, held on May 5th & 6th, 2006, was a huge success with approximately over 700 customers. It was held at the Bruce II Sports Centre and included 27 exhibitors. One exhibitor exclaimed that it was "fantastic!" There were various door prizes handed out, along with a 50/50 draw that went for $220.00. We would like to express our appreciation to all the businesses involved for participating in the Tradeshow, and look forward to seeing you next year.

The Chamebr has hired Tammy LeRiche as our summer student. Tammy is in her second year of studies at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, majoring in Math, and has aspirations to become a highschool math teacher.

The Port aux Basques and Area Chamber of Commerce recently held it's third annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, June 24th, 2006. We would like to send a special thanks everyone that was involved in bringing this event together. Also, thanks to our sponsors, and to the participating teams.

There was a total of 12 teams, with 48 golfers. There was a 'Shotgun Start' at 12:00 noon, and all participants played 2 rounds of golf. The game ended approximately 5:30 pm following a prime rib roast dinner.

Prizes were awarded to the following:
 Lowest Score - Development Bank of Canada
 Highest Score – Irving mainway
 There were 3 door prizes

All other prizes were raffled; there were 12 prize lots with 4 prizes in each lot, each team picked a number from a bag, and the number drawn was the prize lot won.

There was also a silent auction.
